Nashville-based Spencer Cullum won admirers everywhere with his debut album, Coin Collection, a delightful condensation of rock and new wave influences from his improbable Romford upbringing, all made skilfully folky. Now there’s Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection 2 (Full Time Hobby), created with spontaneous speed in his adopted American home city to equally beguiling effect. What A Waste Of An Echo, he purrs on its opener, like a folk-chilled Ray Davies, but there’s not a misused moment on a set that focuses less obviously on his inspirations and more on new ideas and collaborations. Contributors include Japanese singer-songwriter Yuma Abe, who adds a further layer of charm to Kingdom Weather, as well as Dana Gavanski, Erin Rae and Caitlin Rose.
