Ex-Kayak frontman delivers portentous concept piece. Best known for two stints as frontman with Dutch prog stalwarts Kayak, Edward Reekers has also popped up in many of Arjen Lucassen’s projects. His fourth solo album (and the first in more than 15 years) is the two-disc The Liberty Project – a full-on rock musical/concept album with a narrative built around a love story framed against a world in turmoil, with contributions from a range of weighty names including Damian Wilson, Steve Hackett and fellow Kayak alumni Cindy Oudshoorn. Although undeniably a rock tour de force, there’s much variety here.
