Gifted musicians let the music Talk (Talk).
This intriguing instrumental collective, led by David Joseph and primarily deploying musicians who worked with Talk Talk on the peerless Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock, improvised the album Solace last year, and the pleasant surprise was that it worked wonderfully. It paid tribute to the unique feel and shapeshifting abilities of those records while avoiding mimicry. It was gorgeous music – perhaps post-rock, perhaps atmospheric prog – in its own right.
Evidently encouraged, they return with a pair of exquisite EPs. One sees them playing the bulk of Solace live, with just a hint more heaviness, at Real World Studios. It’s a lovely listen, with consummate guitarist Robbie McIntosh cut a tad more slack to testify as well as tease. The other,…
