Pallbearer’s fifth album finds the band at their most “subdued and uncomfortable” according the bassist-vocalist Joe Rowland. Mind Burns Alive is released via Nuclear Blast Records on May 17, with the Arkansas prog-doom quartet focusing on emotional rather than guitar-driven heaviness. “It’s Pallbearer stripped back and on the verge of a mental breakdown,” says Rowland. “In the past, we’ve leaned into bombast to deliver emotion. We’ve inverted that methodology to let the quiet of the record be the main form of delivery.” He continues, “The album revolves around six vignettes of people in various stages of mental distress and we wanted to capture that sense of unease.
