Refurbishing Lynn Rival ’s interior woodwork

Most of Lynn Rival’s interior – apart from the headlining and carpeted floors – is fnished with teak-faced ply and solid teak trims. The exposed wood was varnished in vulnerable areas (the companionway and galley) and some had received a coat of ‘teak sealer’ in the past, but the rest was simply oiled. Over time, water ingress and general wear and tear had left their mark. We found it difficult to make time to re-varnish the interior wood while living aboard, and oiled wood collects dust and grime. Being in India for the monsoon period didn’t help, nor did having 10 pirates on board for six days; and then being left covered and unventilated for a year (while we were in captivity) only added to the deterioration.
