Three years ago he bought a Corribee on eBay There are times when the etiquette of yachting gets pretty severe. Take flags, particularly ensigns. Ensigns, say the pundits, are not flown unless the owner is on board. They are hauled down at sunset, preferably to the accompaniment of whatever the ship can muster in the way of a brass band, eg comb and paper, playing the National Anthem. They are also dipped: connoisseurs claim there is no action more British than the skipper of the Salty Sal waggling his ensign at one of HM’s aircraft carriers (if he can find one) and writing to his MP if the courteous gesture is not reciprocated.
