‘Naturally gifted’ boatbuilder Bill Parker passes away
Tributes have been paid to East Coast boatbuilder Bill Parker, who died on 12 May aged 83. His Lincolnshire yard, Parker Liftkeel Yachts, produced the Parker 27, 235, 285, 335 and the Squib and Sandhopper dayboats. Bill was born on 18 August 1936 at Boston in Lincolnshire and lived there all of his life. The family firm GW Parker and Son had long been established as a joinery and noted for its master craftsmen and fine furniture making. Bill joined the company as a teenager, learning from his grandfather. At the age of 16 he built his first boat, the John Westell-designed 505 racing dinghy.
