Having delayed the spring relaunch due to the coronavirus lockdown I, like many, was keen to get my yacht ready for the water once the boatyard was reopened for business. In my haste to get down to the yard I left my new impeller cover plate screws at home. Deciding it would be OK to use the old screws for a third season the inevitable happened: one of the screws sheared as I tightened it up. To avoid damaging the hole threads I decided to remove the water pump housing and drill the offending thread out at home. This proved fairly simple but on removing the pump I discovered that the O-ring seal had been pinched when the pump had last been fitted following a service. As the existing cover…
