Twitchers and boatbuilders We probably get more negative bird references than positive ones from readers’ letters and articles (how convenient must your crosstrees look to a bird hunting over water!). But has an observation about a bird pulling a worm from the ground ever inspired a solution to reconstructing a wooden mast? Well, it has now. Thank you John Rogers for capturing the moment (see pages 64-69). It’s a brilliant bit of writing by a seasoned boat restorer and it really made my day when I first read it. I hope it tickles you as much as it did me! Once again a PBO reader has conjured a unique but completely clear and lucid solution for a knotty problem that perhaps may never directly help another soul, but inspires loyalty…
