Lost in lockdown My severely curtailed sailing programme has allowed me more time to explore some less frequented corners of the sailing vlogosphere and marvel at the sheer variety of forms that a life of adventure afloat can take. Right up my street is Sailing Trimaran Spirit, the story of Australian Jason Gard, a professional superyacht skipper who in 2010 acquired the legendary 40ft racing trimaran Spirit of England in Newport, Rhode Island, and transformed it into what must be one of the world’s least comfortable but most fun (if sometimes terrifying) cruising boats. His Italian mate Claudia joined in the Caribbean and together they sailed as far as Australia.
