THE National Energy Regulator of SA’s (Nersa) recent electricity tariff increase of 18.65% granted to Eskom will come into effect in April.
Nersa also approved a 12.74% tariff increase for the 2024/2025 financial year. This translates to an allowable revenue of R318 billion and R352 billion respectively.
Energy experts and researchers shared their thoughts on the energy crisis.
Monique Le Roux, senior researcher in Energy Systems at the CSIR, said it would have a significant impact on households and businesses.
“This increase is three times the current inflation rate and comes on the back of the worst load shedding that has ever been implemented in the country.
