As KwaZulu-Natal public schools start the year on Wednesday, Tamasha Khanyi spoke to principals about their state of readiness, challenges, and the programmes they have implemented to better serve pupils’ education needs. l Arthur Lukhan, principal of Chats-worth Secondary School, said they introduced yoga classes for Grade 8 pupils and line dancing for teachers last year, and aimed to continue these activities in 2023. “Studies have shown that proper practice of yoga helps with self- discipline, growth and esteem. I believe children deserve a well-rounded experience in school. It’s not just about academics.
