Un an après la mort du pianiste, l’art de Nelson Freire est plus vivant que jamais. Notamment au travers d’une biographie du Brésilien signée Olivier Bellamy. L’occasion de retrouver l’une de leurs conversations, douze ans après sa diffusion sur Radio Classique, en 2009.

ON DIT QUE VOUS N’AIMEZ PAS LES INTERVIEWS. Je ne suis pas très à l’aise… Ça dépend avec qui… DEBUSSY VOUS VA BIEN. C’EST PLEIN DE NON-DITS… C’est une musique que j’adore. Je n’ai pas voulu donner une interprétation personnelle [un CD venait de sortir chez Decca]. Tout est là. Debussy est très clair et minutieux dans le moindre détail. Ça me rappelle une histoire: après un récital de Guiomar Novaes, un fan se met presque à genoux devant elle et vante la beauté de son Chopin, la force de son Beethoven, la subtilité de son Debussy, etc. Sans comprendre, elle lui dit: « Mais… tout est écrit. » COMMENT ÊTRE SOI-MÊME AVEC UNE MUSIQUE ÉCRITE PAR UN AUTRE ?
