The government’s lack of IT knowledge elevates Jon Honeyball to a new level of despair

It was an announcement that didn’t really make the headline news, which is understandable given all the unpleasant things happening in the world. But it certainly piqued my interest when on 22 November Oliver Dowden MP issued a statement containing these words: “The Government Security Group has undertaken a review of the current and future possible security risks associated with the installation of visual surveillance systems on the government estate. The review has concluded that, in light of the threat to the UK and the increasing capability and connectivity of these systems, additional controls are required.” Those additional controls were to “cease deployment of such equipment onto sensitive sites”, with the ban applying to any kit produced by firms subject to the Chinese National Intelligence Law. “Additionally, departments have been advised…
