A solid inkjet MFP with competitive running costs, but others beat it for outright print quality

PRICE £133 (£160 inc VAT) from printerbase.co.uk Brother’s MFC-J4340DW is an A4 colour inkjet MFP that can print, scan, fax and copy. It offers direct control via a combination of buttons and a colour screen, and on top there’s a 20-sheet automatic document feeder. While this MFP has no wired Ethernet connection, it supports Wi-Fi 4 (formerly 802.11n), and there’s a USB port concealed under the scanner bed. Like other Brother inkjet MFPs we’ve reviewed, there’s a clatter to the 150-sheet paper cassette and 100-sheet output tray. It’s easy to join this printer to a wireless network, but it’s less easy to enter its default password during a firmware update – it’s printed on the rear label and is packed full of unhelpful symbols.
