Details of the print, scan and copy tests we put each device through

We don’t take a manufacturer’s word for its printer’s performance. Every printer or MFP to cross our path gets thrashed with a set of print, scan and copy tests, designed to tease out weaknesses and reveal hidden greatness. We set up every device using the supplied CD, or drivers downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. We connect network-capable devices to a dedicated wired and wireless router, shared only by the other devices on test and our host PC. They have internet access, and we apply any firmware updates offered by the printer or installer. We then use a set of untimed tests to assess print quality, text quality and shade control.
