By far the easiest way to save money when buying a smartphone is not to buy one at all. Or at least, to hold off upgrading until your phone is truly at the end of its life. We hate to think about the number of usable phones sitting unused in drawers, so if you have one lurking there, sell it. Indeed, second-hand phones can be bargains. Before you buy, however, check how long it will continue to receive security updates. If you prefer to buy new, then it’s well worth investigating previous-generation models – especially those from Google and Apple, because they tend to offer long OS updates…
