Billion-dollar investment in British AI driving firm

Britain has a new unicorn! Sadly the term doesn’t in this case refer to the pointy horse, but something that the British government hopes is just as magical: a tech firm with a valuation of more than a billion dollars. Autonomous driving startup Wayve recently announced that it has secured more than $1bn of investment from companies such as Microsoft, Nvidia and Japanese investment fund SoftBank. It was so significant that a press release from the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology heralded the news as a “vote of confidence in [the] UK economy”, and included a quote from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak saying: “I’m incredibly proud that the UK is the home for pioneers like Wayve who are breaking ground as they develop the next generation of AI models for…
