As top-end devices edge closer to laptops, is it time to rethink the tablet?

Tablets keep evolving. I used to dismiss low-end models due to their terrible screens and crippled processors, but the experience is now far from terrible. But the biggest change has been at the higher end, where I’ve seen a blossoming of larger form factors and the arrival of laptop-class silicon. We’re getting to the point where these tablets could work as your daily driver. Apple and Samsung have aspired to this for years, but now the hardware, accessories and ecosystems have made it practicable. I’m not saying it’s perfect. You still face limitations in terms of the interface or file system that make some tasks challenging, but the iPad Air, iPad Pro or Galaxy Tab S devices can now easily handle video editing or professional design work.
