Good value for entertainment and basic tasks, but it’s worth spending more

SCORE PRICE 32GB, £125 (£150 inc VAT) from amazon.co.uk Amazon’s larger tablet has its strengths. Say what you like about its plastic construction – available in ocean blue, lilac and black – but it’s surprisingly tough and comfortable to hold. You can also accessorise it with a selection of cases, including a chunky “Kid-Proof” case and a keyboard folio. With the latter, it will easily cover school homework and simple web-based tasks. The screen isn’t bad either. Though the gloss surface is annoyingly reflective, the brightness level maxes out at a respectable 437cd/m2, and it can reproduce 99% of the sRGB colour space and 73% of DCI-P3.
