Panasonic Toughbook 40 MK2

The outside stays the same, but a welcome upgrade to Core Ultra chips means it keeps up with the times

It’s a rugged laptop that thrives in demanding environments, with supreme build quality, incredible flexibility through its array of modular bays and the backup of rapid support from Panasonic’s Cardiff base if anything needs to be fixed. But it had a weakness: speed. Panasonic was still using 11th gen Intel Core processors, and the i5-1145G7 chip I tested limped through our benchmarks with a score of 5,118 in Geekbench 6’s multicore section and 5,273 in Cinebench R23.
