Brother MFC-L2980DW

An MFP version of Brother’s HL-L2865DW laser printer above. We’re not sure it’s worth the premium

PRICE £268 (£322 inc VAT) from printerland.co.uk Brother’s MFC-L2980DW is a compact mono laser multifunction peripheral aimed at small and home offices. Its top-heavy design pairs a laser printer with an A4 scanner and ADF. Both the printer and scanner support duplexing, so you can make double-sided prints, scans, copies and faxes. Everything’s controlled via an 8.8cm colour touchscreen, although there’s no USB host port for walk-up prints and scans. This MFP’s printer is essentially identical to the Brother HL-L2865DW. Unsurprisingly, then, its print speed results were almost the same, save for slightly faster duplexing, at 11.5 images per minute. The output quality was near-identical, too: this printer produced wonderful black text but, while graphics suffered slightly less from banding, they were still too dark. The similarity at the core…
