Back to basics – Picot Cutting

You will need Your basic tool kit plus: Pergamano And Trace Place a piece of plain parchment paper over the pattern and with a white pencil, trace the dashed lines. With a black fine liner pen, trace the remaining lines and the 3D butterfly. Colour Working on the front of your work, with a black fine liner pen, colour the spots and bodies of the butterflies. Working on the back of your work, with Perga Colours Exclusive pens, colour the flower petals, leaves and butterflies in colours of your choice. You will need Your basic tool kit plus: Pergamano Plus JUDITH’S TOP TIP To create a fine line, hold your pen almost upright so only the tip of the nib is touching the parchment. To avoid blots, always clean out your nib before dipping back into the ink. Try to leave your work to rest for a day before going back to lightly emboss again. Gridwork Cut a piece of parchment to measure 18x24cm. Rub the back of the parchment with a tumble dryer sheet and attach to the bold diagonal grid using low-tack tape Create the grid border first. Emboss • With a 3mm embossing tool, emboss the solid traced lines. Perforate/Emboss With a semi-square perforating tool, shallow perforate around the square border and the large diamond. With a 1.5mm embossing tool, emboss inside the semi-square perforations according to Diagram 1. Re-perforate deeply with the semi-square perforating tool (Step 1). With a 2-needle perforating tool, perforate around the inside of the cross hatch lines (Step 2). Cut With parchment scissors or snips, cut between the 2-needle perforations. Colour On the front of parchment colour… Shell A in light flesh, cinnamon and Venetian red, shell B in ivory and green gold and shell C in ivory and yellow ochre. Work on the sweetpea image as follows – do not trace the pattern first: Using white and a small circular motion place a base layer on all flower heads and buds.
