How to use masks with stamping

Build up your design by stamping foreground images first. Stamp duplicate images onto a post-it note, fussy cut, then position over your original images to create a mask. Stamp midground images across the mask. Here, we have created a mask of the bird and flower, and are building up the image by adding more flowers. Create a mask of your images from step 2, and leaving the original masks in place, finish your design by stamping the background elements. In this example, the branch and blossoms.…

The lavender papers gave me the idea to try some essential oils (lavender and rose) on a paper tissue that I tucked inside the card. Hopefully by the time the cards get to you, you can still smell it! We are just starting to get your magazine stocked in our local chain of Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores here in Florida, so I always pick up an issue when I can. Precious petals My Aunt’s mother passed away recently, and I wanted to send them a card with our family’s sympathy. I love this design as it’s so simple – just choose a nice backing paper, then pop a paper doily on top as the base of the flower wreath. I built the wreath out of flowers, leaves and scraps of vines left over from other projects. I used a lot of plain white paper flowers which I inked with a very pale pink to give just a hint of colour. I was really pleased with how it all turned out. How to... Make a camera shaker card

Print the camera template and cut out. Cut an A4 piece of card in half lengthways and fold. Using the template and placing the left edge against the fold, cut around it. Cut 8.5x13.5cm of star paper and round off the top two corners to match the base card. Use the camera template as a guide to make sure they are even. Stick to the front of the card. Cut a 2.5x14cm strip of red patterned paper. Layer onto a larger strip of black card and add a 1.5cm strip of pink paper along the centre. Stick to the card front, 1.5cm up from the bottom. 1 Cover the front of a 15cm square of white card with scraps of paper. Start at the left corner and work your way round. 2 Trim the piece to 13.5cm and die cut a large star from the centre. Add a square of acetate to the back. Repeat to create a matching piece from craft foam and stick this to the back, lining up the matching apertures. 3 Stick the sentiment to the centre of a 14cm square of white card using the star window as a guide. • To create a left or right version of a shape, simply duplicate the image and select the ‘flip’ option on the Scan N Cut edit menu. • If resizing a project, don’t forget to select all your items and ‘group’ them together first so they all resize at the same time. • Do a test cut first to check the blade is cutting through the card. How to... Make a swing easel card

Draw a 12.5cm square on a 15cm› card blank. With the fold at the top, cut the square, leaving it attached between 5 & 6cm either side. Valley fold the outer frame at 5cm, mountain fold at 4 & 6cm. Cut a 14.5cm and a 10cm square from pink paper, a 9cm square, 7x13.5cm and four 1x2.5cm panels from floral paper. Cut a u-shaped piece for the front and add faux stitching with a white gel pen. Emboss the 7x13.5cm floral panel with the Flower Garden folder and layer onto the 14.5cm pink square. Attach to the inside of the card. Emboss a piece of vellum with the same folder. Cut three 17x14cm frames from white card using the Stitched Rectangles die. 2 Stamp the ‘Thank You’ sentiment on the right side of a 16.5x13.5cm piece of floral paper using black ink, and attach the floral paper panel to the front of your card blank. 3 Cut & emboss three vellum panels – one with the Rose Flourish folder and two using the Flower Garden folder. How to make an embellished feather

Colour the MDF feather from the dreamcatcher kit in a mix of Distress Oxides with a sponge dauber. Once dry, apply glue to the stamp and then stamp directly onto the MDF feather. Leave the glue for a few seconds so it dries off slightly, then apply the gilding flakes directly onto the feather and gently press down so that the flakes cover the whole shape. Once the glue is dry, gently scrub the feather’s surface with a stamp cleaning pad to remove the excess flakes. Attach the feather to the dreamcatcher along with the other materials.…

Call us superstitious, but we definitely think there’s something to be said for the magical powers of a dreamcatcher. Legend has it these pretty hoops get rid of bad dreams, and of course they look great, too! Here Vicky has used the Lavinia dreamcatcher kit to create this version with a dainty pixie tiptoeing through a patch of wildflowers – we like to think she’s the one warding off the bad spirits! A mixture of coloured Distress Oxides gives the design a rustic look, while a sprinkling of gilding flakes adds some eye-catching sparkle. 1 Dress it up! Who says that hessian bows can’t be gold and glittery? Choose your own quantity of shimmering shabby chic by mixing the glamour of gilding with the natural texture of hessian ribbon. Simply sponge on the glue where you want, leave it to turn tacky and then add the flakes on top. Leave it to dry, then remove any loose bits of sparkle. Nesting label dies are so handy for card making, but did you know that you can also use them to make book-themed cards? Make this recipe book easel card

This gorgeous recipe card is a piece of cake to make! The angle of an easel card is great for displaying an open book design which is perfect for creating this propped-up cookbook card! Here, Angela has used a printable greeting (p77) but you can always have a go at writing your own message if you want before die cutting and attaching it to the base card. You can of course mount an embellishment or greeting to the base of the card with sticky foam pads, as this will act like a step for the easel to rest against. The pages of this mini book move, as only the back of the book is attached to the card, which is a great way to use the smaller dies in a nesting labels set. How to get the leather look

Create two rectangles from kraft card using the template on p77. Soak the card in one-part glycerine and two-part water mixture until it’s flexible. Scrunch the card up and open flat. Soak and scrunch the card again and leave to dry – this could take several hours. Distress patches of one side of both rectangles with the Tea Die Distress Ink using a blending tool. To finish, use the blending tool to gently add the Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink to raised areas of the inked rectangles. Your fake leather is now ready to create your gift wallet.…

Cover the front of a 15cm square top-folding kraft card with a piece of slightly smaller brown card. Trim a square of feather paper, distress the edges then stick onto the top-right corner. Trim a 14cm square of cream card. Ink the edges with brown ink. Pat ink on an acrylic block, add water and splatter over the cream card. Leave to dry thoroughly, then distress the edges. Fussy cut a tree, bird and bird’s eggs, and attach on the cream card. Secure the panel to the card front, peeling away the top-right corner to reveal the feather paper underneath. 1 Using the template as a guide (p77), draw, cut out, score and fold a kraft card blank. Attach a 14cm square of wood-effect paper inside. Attach a 6.5x13.5cm piece of green card to the top panel and two 6.5cm green square pieces to the side panels. 2 Distress the edges of a 6x13cm piece of feather paper and secure to the top. Ink and distress two 6cm squares of feather paper and attach to the side panels. 3 Die cut the nest sentiment into a circle and layer on a larger circle. Our designer challenge... Only use 5 items! We challenged Sarah Jackman-Read to make five cards using just five bought items – plus a few extra bits from her stash! Hot ticket! Create a repeat pattern down the right-hand side of the tag using the thimble stamp and then stamp the mannequin on contrasting paper and attach on the left-hand side. Trim the centres from two doilies then fold into gathered circles to create the flower petals. Add rolled-up washi tape in a similar shade to the centre of the flower and cut leaves from a double layer of washi tape.
