Dear Liz, How can I make a smaller dinner party fun? If you ask me—and you did, didn’t you?—there is nothing better than having a small group for dinner. In fact, my favorite way to entertain is for groups of between six and eight so that we can have one table conversation. I find an all-table conversation (which is only possible in a smaller group) so much more entertaining than the awkward sidebar convos that need to go on through a three- to four-course meal at a long table of people. It’s very hard to make polite chitchat with the person to your right and the person to your left for multiple hours!
