The Fontainebleau Las Vegas, gestating for nearly two decades, brings a dose of old-school Miami glamour to Sin City

CHER DOESN’T SHOW up to just any party. But there she was, watching craps and making out with her boyfriend at the grand opening of the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, the mammoth casino-resort that recently opened. The people behind the legendary Fontainebleau Miami Beach finally brought their 67-story Vegas property to fruition; it broke ground in 2007 but soon ground to a halt thanks to the economic meltdown. The ghost tower blighted the northern end of the Strip for years, serving as a sad metaphor for the recession and, later, COVID. The December opening was a much-needed shot in the arm for Vegas, still struggling to recover international foot traffic post-pandemic.
