The hardest part of running matches in the precision rifle world is ensuring the course design is challenging but achievable. It is also important to benchmark shooters against other competitors, both local and international. With this in mind, James Devine decided to put on a match using the same format as recently used in a couple of USA matches.

James did considerable work to convert distances and target sizes to metric and design the course of fire to be shot on the linear range of Metallic Silhouette Shooting Range at Atlantis in the Western Cape. Apart from all of the preparation work, James self-funded a huge set of gongs and stands to suit the new format. It was a nice change to shoot on a new range. If shoots are always held on the same range, shooters get to know its tricks and idiosyncrasies and the learning curve flattens out.
