INTERESTING TO READ HOW GEORGE OF LONDON FOXED THEM Dear Editor It was pleasing to see an up-to-date picture of recently named George of London, relating to August 1913 Burrell No. 3489 in the news section of OG 404 - October 2023, and looking very different and smart without a full-length canopy or a dynamo bracket. I recall seeing this engine in Jack Wharton’s showman’s livery over 40 years ago, at the Fairford steam rally of 1983. Back then the engine was named King George VI and to help identify it the registration plate(PB9624) wason the front canopy, later moved above the smoke box, so it is understandable that at the Welland rally it would have baffled a few of the punters.
