KNIGHTS 20, PANTHERS 12 PANTHERS’ TOP FOUR HOPES LAND IN THE BIN THERE was no miracle comeback for the Panthers in front of a big home crowd as frustrations boiled over late in the contest with the Knights and deteriorated into a wild melee. When order was restored two players from each team were sent to the sin bin for throwing punches, leaving 11 players aside to finish the game. The absence of experienced five-eighth James Maloney was significant for the Panthers, who had relied on his composure to extract the team from desperate positions in three previous come-from-behind wins. Without him, Nathan Cleary was forced to play a senior role and he had his hands full opposite Knights pair Kalyn Ponga and Mitchell Pearce.
