RETIRING CLASS OF 2018

The changing of the guard in the NRL becomes immediately apparent with a single scroll down the list of retiring players for 2018. It is doubtful that there has ever been such an exodus of quality players to retirement as there was in this year. The retiring class includes seven members of the ‘300 club’ and five who had played over 30 Test matches. The brightest star among them is Johnathan Thurston, calling it a day after 323 NRL games and another 75 at Test or Origin level. The overwhelming view of former players, fans, writers and historians is that Thurston will one day sit alongside the 13 players who have been inducted as Immortals of the game.
