Grand Final Teams

A SEASON without a grand final is unimaginable in today’s NRL but until 1926 the competition decider that we celebrate as the highlight of the Telstra Premiership was not part of the game’s agenda. The grand final only became possible after a vote of the NSWRL’s General Committee a week before Christmas in 1925. The new competition format was one of a number of changes introduced by the NSWRL in response to deteriorating playing standards. For the first four years of the premiership (1908-11) the NSWRL experimented with finals formats. In 1908 and ’09 there was a four-team finals series but in 1910 and ’11 it came down to a playoff between the two leading teams.
