Another year in the wilderness

A NINTH-place finish was all too familiar territory for the Wests Tigers in 2019, especially the circumstances of their final round loss to Cronulla, but at least a semblance of stability returned to the club after the turmoil of recent seasons. The arrival of premiership-winning coach Michael Maguire in November ensured the club could move forward after the messy departure of Ivan Cleary and finally the team was able to operate without constant distractions. The season started on the best possible note with quality wins over the Sea Eagles and Warriors and by the end of Round 2, the Tigers occupied top position on the competition ladder for the first time in the club’s history.
