WITH Cooper Cronk long gone and Billy Slater retiring after the 2018 Grand Final there was a popular view that the Storm would struggle to maintain their high standards and figure among the competition’s front-runners again in 2019. Cameron Smith was another year older, there was a lack of experience in key positions and there were any number of opposition teams ready to take their place as the competition’s benchmark team. It didn’t take long for the Storm to silence the doubters. By Round 3 they had moved to the top of the premiership ladder and except for a brief period when they dropped as far as fourth, Craig Bellamy’s men set their course for a third minor premiership title in the space of four seasons.
