Defence leads to greener pastures

AFTER their long-awaited rise in 2019 and their heart-breaking grand final defeat, it’s almost inconceivable to think that the Raiders won’t be knocking on the door for premiership honours again next season. Their premiership window looks wide open – the average age of their grand final team was a youthful 25, and their squad will remain largely intact for 2020. However, history shows that the Raiders have struggled to back up successful seasons. Not since 2003-04 have they contested successive finals series and, up to this year, their past six finals series have been followed by a lean campaign.
