RUGBY league Nines returned to the international calendar when 12 nations met at Bankwest Stadium in October. Traditional league nations Australia, New Zealand and England were joined by emerging Pacific nations Tonga, Fiji, Samoa and the Cook Islands, and minnows USA, PNG, France, Lebanon and Wales in the men’s tournament. Pool Stage Australia dominated the two-day event, going through the entire tournament without a loss; and the pool stage seemed easy for the home side. The Aussies opened their campaign with scintillating 25-12 win over rivals New Zealand on the Friday night. Josh Addo-Carr was at his electrifying best as he scored the opening two tries.
