Grinding effort secures progress

THE Broncos defied a growing casualty list to hold off the Panthers at Suncorp Stadium and set up a preliminary final with the Storm in Melbourne. Already missing fullback Darius Boyd and forwards Andrew McCullough, Korbin Sims and Tevita Pangai Jnr, the Broncos lost three more players to concussion during the game but were still good enough to score two tries to one in a dour 80-minute exhibition. Of the three, Corey Oates was the most doubtful to play in the preliminary final after he was the victim of a sickening collision with team-mate Anthony Milford midway through the opening half.
