COWBOYS 21, BRONCOS 20 THURSTON THE HERO IN ANOTHER DERBY THRILLER FOR the fourth time in their past five encounters, extra-time was required to split the difference between the Cowboys and the Broncos as the Queensland powerhouses turned on another classic derby. Just as he did in the 2015 Grand Final, it was Cowboys ace Johnathan Thurston who proved the Broncos’ nemesis with a field goal deciding the game in golden point. The game lived up to expectations, but few could have imagined the toll it would take on both sides. The Cowboys were hardest hit, losing prop Matt Scott for the season with a ruptured ACL, while Lachlan Coote tore a calf muscle and Antonio Winterstein fractured his wrist.
