Holmes nets record haul as Roos power through

VALENTINE Holmes rewrote Australian Test and World Cup history when he scored five tries in the Kangaroos’ crushing quarter-final victory over Samoa in Darwin. The 22-year-old became the first player to score five tries at Test level for Australia and the first player from any nation to score five tries in a World Cup match. Holmes didn’t miss an opportunity in a superb display of speed, skill and anticipation. He opened the scoring in the ninth minute when he plucked a ball of his bootlaces after Josh Dugan had tapped on a Cooper Cronk chip kick.
