COOPER CRONK WHEN Cooper Cronk made the call to retire from representative football in the afterglow of the World Cup Final, it ended perhaps the greatest partnership the game has known. His decision means the ‘Big Three’ – Cronk, Billy Slater and Cameron Smith – will never again be seen in combination. It was a partnership that began even before Cronk made his NRL debut for the Storm in 2004. The trio were team-mates for Brisbane Norths in the early 2000s but it wasn’t until they came together at Melbourne that the magic formula began to brew.
