Big year takes a toll on title defence

PERSPECTIVE can mean the difference between success and failure. The Canberra Raiders were over the moon to make it to a preliminary final after failing to advance that deeply into the finals in almost 20 years, but the North Queensland Cowboys – chasing the modern day Holy Grail of back-to-back titles – viewed their preliminary final exit as a disappointment. Different perspective. Different emotions. There were times when the Cowboys looked a class above their opposition and successive premiership titles seemed within their grasp.
