WHEN Cronulla’s c club record 15-game winning streak was finally brought to an end with a draw against the Gold Coast, the Sharks’ title charge appeared to lose all impetus. In the final six rounds of the regular season they managed a single victory against the Sydney Roosters. Although a place in the top four was not in jeopardy, history showed that no team with such a poor record heading into the finals had ever won the title. Coach Shane Flanagan remained upbeat, insisting that a turnaround wasn’t far away.
