Late injuries cruel their tilt at the title

HISTORY will judge the Sydney Roosters’ conversion of three minor premiership titles into one premiership win as a textbook case of under-achievement. While there may be some merit to the claim based on the club’s 2014 season, it would be a harsh assessment to paint the Roosters’ 2015 campaign as a failure. The Moore Park outfit was powering full steam towards a second title in three seasons by late August when disaster struck in their top-of-the-table clash with the Brisbane Broncos. Within a five-minute period of the Allianz Stadium encounter, the Roosters lost halfback Mitchell Pearce to a torn hamstring and prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves to a season-ending torn ACL.
