HAROLD ‘MICK’ CROCKER (1927-December 11, 2014) A champion lock forward or second-rower of the 1950s, Crocker was a key figure in the famous Test match won by Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on July 22, 1950 when the Ashes were prised from Great Britain’s grasp for the first time in 30 years. The Souths Brisbane forward debuted in the second Test in Brisbane when Australia squared the series with a 15-3 win then held his place for the decider, played on a quagmire surface in Sydney. With only minutes remaining, Crocker figured in the passing movement that led to the only try of the Test, scored by lanky winger Ron Roberts.
