WHAT a year for the city of Townsville! The North Queensland centre laid claim to being the number one rugby league city in Australia in 2015 after a season of unprecedented success. Townsville boasted the premiers in the NRL after the Cowboys’ sensational grand final victory over the Broncos; the runners-up in the Intrust Super Cup premiership (Townsville Blackhawks); preliminary finalists in the Holden Cup; NRL Club Champions; National Under-16s and Under-18s finalists and the national schoolboys champions (Kirwan State High). Almost a century ago the city of Toowoomba boasted they were the centre of the rugby league universe after beating all comers including Sydney premiers South Sydney and the touring Great Britain team; while Newcastle claimed a similar standing after knocking over Great Britain in 1962 and then upsetting St George…
