CITY DWELLERS EVERYWHERE love to sneer at tourists, taking pictures of everything but not really looking at anything. Well, you’d never lump artist Stefan Marjoram in with the typical Brazilian student or Japanese pensioner frowning into an iPhone or a giant DSLR, but a few years ago he felt he was going that way. ‘I used to take a lot of photos of cars at events like the Le Mans Classic,’ he recalls. ‘I began to realise I hadn’t soaked up the atmosphere because I’d spent two days looking through a viewfinder. I liked drawing other things, so why not cars? I started sketching instead. It was much less hard work and so much more enjoyable. People would look over my shoulder, talk to me. It was lovely.
