Just as Series Land Rovers have been gathering steam in the classic car market here in the UK, their Japanese rivals have been pulling deeper into the hinterlands of affordability in the USA. Pre-1984 Toyota Land Cruisers (the ‘Tonka Toy’ models, as we affectionately think of them) have for some time now been bona fide collectibles Stateside, and the rest of the world is now a er these brilliantly boxy and unkillable cars, too. This restored 1982 HJ47 Pick-Up, set to be offered by Historics at Brooklands on 29 August, is said to be one of only three in the UK and would be a very good buy at its lower estimate of £10,000; it will almost certainly outlive the lot of us.…
