COMPARATIVELY speaking, values of the Aston Martin DB6 – this month’s cover feature car – have lagged some way behind its DB4 and DB5 siblings. With a notable exception: the Volante. The convertible model has traditionally attracted about twice the price of its saloon equivalent, but the latest action in the auction world suggests that Volante values – especially those of the rare Vantage-engined versions – have engaged overdrive. At the Barons sale at Sandown Park at the end of July, a Vantage Volante, described as highly original, made £781,000, a record figure for Barons.
