Getting into gear for Pendine 1929 FORD MODEL A HOT ROD SARAH BRADLEY I WAS PRETTY stressed leading up to this year’s Vintage Hot Rod Association races at Pendine Lands. Time nearly ran out to prepare my Ford Model A for the July event, and it was only thanks to the help of my other half, my dad, various specialists and several mates that the car made the 500-mile round trip to deepest Wales. Teamwork at its best! I’d destroyed first gear several months earlier during a weekend reliability (ha!) run. My saviour was Bedfordshire-based early Ford transmission expert Alan Brock (hot_jazz_al@yahoo.co.uk). His knowledge of three-speed top-loaders is second to none, and he stripped the box and replaced the broken cluster plus various dodgy parts with NOL or good used items; he refuses to…
