IT”S HARD TO FILD enough adjectival phrases to do justice to this superb work by Tomlinson. More than just a history of the Bugatti ‘Tanks’, the narrative tackles the 57G’s development history and race record, but also the Types 57, 57S and 59. The blurb that accompanies the book highlights the fact that it was 40 years in the making, and we suspect that this is more than just PR puff. The chapter entitled Three Tanks or Four? is particularly intriguing as it delves into the vexed question of how many T57Gs were made, and the race-by-race info is also superbly detailed. The book’s amateurish design and its horrible typography don’t match the artistry of the subject matter, unfortunately. More attention here would have lied it onto an even higher plane.…
