It promises excitement and action, but really the attractions of this super-rare Stirling Moss game are its charm and collectability

A QUIRK OF the table plan at the Royal Automobile Club’s salute to Stirling Moss in May meant I found myself, for once, pretty close to the stage, and so almost within hand-shaking distance of our world-famous living legend. The occasion was a members’ dinner to pay tribute exactly 60 years since he won the Mille Miglia, plus the publication of his new book My Racing Life (see Octane 145), which is also avowedly his last. There was a signed copy for everyone present; Sir Stirling had performed his mammoth autographing session earlier, and we were all politely asked not to offer him our napkins for that famously tight, tapering name.
